How to Ride the Wave of Change
Over the years, business consulting has evolved significantly in solutions, methods, and approaches. According to the latest research conducted by the French firm Businesscoot, the global market value of business consulting firms is showing steady growth from 2024 to 2029. In fact, while the overall global value for 2024 is estimated at $354 billion, it is expected to reach $447.74 billion in 2029. This represents a 26.4% increase over the period, driven by several factors, primarily the growing complexity of business operations, technological advancements, and a stronger focus on the ability to make strategic decisions. Companies are increasingly seeking external expertise to tackle emerging challenges, implement digital transformations, and improve overall organizational efficiency.
Among the active firms in this specific field of business consulting in Ticino is Kyma Team SA, established in 2019. With around ten employees and several associates, the company is rooted in Switzerland but operates throughout Europe and benefits from a network of consultants capable of covering areas outside Europe as well. To better understand the areas Kyma Team is focusing on, we interviewed Roberto Copercini, Founding Partner of Kyma Team, who has over 20 years of experience in the industry.
Mr. Copercini, where does the name “Kyma” come from, and how do you support businesses in our region?
The name «Kyma» comes from the Greek word for wave. It’s a term that my co-founder, Claudia Paris, and I chose due to our shared passion for the classical world. More importantly, we believe it embodies our vision of consulting. Our mission is to help companies ride the wave and fully harness their potential. As we all know, the wave of change can either propel or overwhelm individuals and businesses. Success depends on how one approaches it.
What are the areas and challenges where you are most frequently called upon for support, and what do entrepreneurs increasingly require your help with?
One of the most common issues we are asked to address is change management and the digital evolution of businesses. Organizations, particularly those that are successful today, must continuously evolve and adapt, even when their operational models and processes still seem effective. We work alongside our clients to make new strategies operational, manage processes, and assist in shifting paradigms when signs of declining competitiveness appear in certain business areas (e.g. inefficient markets, stagnant demand, products outpaced by competitors, or technological flows misaligned with business needs…). It’s crucial to translate strategic objectives into individual goals and initiatives at every level, redesigning or improving practices to enhance the quality and speed of business processes through dedicated improvement and innovation programs. We identify key points of change through a preliminary assessment—a quick check-up that allows us to understand which areas are under the most pressure or are inefficient.
One of the solutions you offer is the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology. How does this approach help companies implement change in practice?
I’d like to debunk a myth regarding the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology, which is often used solely for team-building sessions. In reality, it’s a workshop approach designed to facilitate thinking, communication, creativity, and problem-solving. In learning to work together, teams go through collective participation: each participant builds their own 3D LEGO model to stimulate knowledge-sharing and group discussion. The second phase focuses on the emotional contribution, as the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method brings the emotional aspect into decision-making and problem-solving processes. At the end of the workshop, a shared solution emerges because all participants’ models combine to form a collective vision. This process fosters consensus and determines the next steps. I want to emphasize that this methodology helps bring potential problems and obstacles arising from change or evolution to light before they occur. This ensures that people are engaged and become part of the identified solution through collaboration, rather than contributors to the emerging problem. This is a key element for successful change.
